Asian Philanthropy Forum curates the ongoing discussions in the philanthropic sector and highlights leaders and organizations that are working to improve the quality of life and sustainability of Asian communities. Our work has always been virtual – using social media to share our conversations. But we realize that philanthropy is personal and connections, while always possible with technology, is usually strengthened by face to face conversations. That’s why we decided to bring together a small group of business and social leaders interested in social innovation and sustainability efforts in Indonesia and China.
The first panel discussion: Microfinance & Sustainability in Bali, Indonesia highlights the efforts of Mr. and Mrs. Oka, philanthropists and pioneers in the microfinance sector. Moderated by Mr. Farris of Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University, this discussion will invite the audience to learn about the opportunities and challenges regarding microfinance and sustainable enterprises in Bali, Indonesia.
The Nurturing China’s Vulnerable Children session shares the work of Ms. Jenny Bowen, Founder and CEO of Half the Sky Foundation, and moderated by Ms. Suzette Wu of Goldman Sachs. Audience members will learn how Half the Sky’s innovative programs provide nurturing family-like care and enrichment opportunities for thousands of children in China and how they were able to work with the Chinese government to make transformational changes at the national level. All guests will receive a signed copy of Jenny Bowen’s book, “Wish You Happy Forever”.
While the event is private and by-invitation only, we will be publicizing some of the conversations after the program – so be sure to check back!
