Selling corporate shares for philanthropy. HCL Corporation sold a 2.5 percent stake in HCL Technologies to raise Rs 580 crore for the Shiv Nadar Foundation. HCL Corporation is privately held by Shiv Nadar and his family. The Foundation is using the funds to set up a university at Greater Noida and to expand SSN Institutions that were set up in Chennai.

BNP Paribas Philanthropy of Award Given to Hong Kong Leader. Chung To was awarded the prix Special for his commitment in helping children and families affected by AIDS in central China. Chung To founded the Chi Heng Foundation in 1998. The Foundation has helped more than 12,000 children affected by AIDS in more than 200 villages across eight Chinese provinces.

Australian philanthropy is stronger, larger, more confident and more organised than it has ever been – and in a world clouded by economic chaos, Australia has emerged as a strong and resilient player. Rather than seeking to emulate overseas models, might Australian philanthropy not have some unique characteristics which the rest of the world could learn from? Is this the tipping point which will see philanthropy in this country scale unforeseen heights?
