Giving by individuals, foundations and corporations continue to increase according to a new report released by Giving USA Foundation and Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy.
In 2016, total charitable giving in the US was estimated at $390.05 billion. This is a 2.7 percent increase from last year ($379.89 billion in 2015).
Individuals continue to be the largest source of giving (72%) followed by foundations (15%), bequests (8%), and corporations (5%).
The top five largest recipient categories include: religion (32 percent), education (15 percent), human services (12 percent), gifts to foundations (10 percent), and health (8 percent).
